Fairbanks wants us to stay

Once we returned to Fairbanks from our adventure to the Arctic Circle and got up to highway speeds, it became evident that MzDazy was hurt. After calling around to nearly every shop in town and visiting a few, the great people at Trailer Craft said they would fix her. A new transmission was ordered and now all there was to do is wait.

We found a Harvest Host that was a distillery called Arctic Harvest. They had a nice tasting room with delicious cocktails and a food truck for dinner. MzDazy waited out by the garden where we spent the night. One of the benefits of these places is …

MzDazy waited out by the garden where we spent the night. One of the benefits of these places is that you can have a couple of cocktails and go to bed, no driving required.

We rented a U-Haul van for a day to wander around Fairbanks and see some of the lower key sights. This antler arch is along the river walk downtown.

When we got back on Friday to drop off MzDazy, the nice guy hiding in the corner, Adam, broke the news to us that there was an error in shipping the transmission and that it was at their facility in Anchorage. It would be Tuesday before it would show up……..

They had pitty on us and let us stay in MzDazy in their lot until it got there. Over the weekend some rain was coming and Martha could not stand the idea that this van would get water in it. She took her stool and duct tape and went to fix it up.

When the rain set in, it got cold. This was not the usual summer rain, it was very much fall. Apparently Fall starts in August in Fairbanks. MzDazy kept us nice and toasty.

After some great work by the crew at Trailer Craft, at 5PM Wednesday, we were off on a 329 mile test drive. All went well and 7 Hours later we were back in Palmer. With the first signs of Fall, we decided to speed up our Southbound departure. Michael helped a couple of friends with airplane work while Martha got our affairs in order so we could get ahead of the impending snow in the Canadian Rockies.
